Belgian Game Spotlight - You Suck At Parking

Welcome to a new Belgian Game Spotlight! Last month we were slicing through enemy samurai in Setting Sun, but now we'll be trying to prove the title of a game wrong. You Suck At Parking is, ironically, a game in which you try to park your car as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

You Suck At Parking is being developed by Happy Volcano, a developer we've featured in the Belgian Game Spotlight before with their narrative adventure, The Almost Gone. But this game is nothing like it...

We had to honour to see a YSAP prototype in action for the first time at 1UP, right after the Belgian Game Awards. At the time it was already a tantalizing title that was equal parts fun as it was frustrating. The goal is to park a few cars on designated parking spots, but they're usually hard to reach.

TELL ME MORE

You Suck At Parking taunts the player with its very title, but the controls are surprisingly easy to grasp, you simply throttle when needed and turn the car left or right, much like the old top-down Micro Machines games.

What makes the parking hard to achieve, are the twists and turns built into the levels as well as the array of objects put into your path, from other cars to giant fans that blow you away or equally large magnets that pull you to your doom.

As if that was not enough, you'll also have to take into account how much gas you have left, with some levels providing gas cannisters along the way.

It's a bright and colourful game with cars that can almost be described as cute. There is even an overworld in which you can drive around to select the next level and the combination of an upbeat soundtrack alongside some neat experimental items like giant soccerballs you can drive into a goal, among others, makes it a lighthearted experience that oozes fun.

Players who feel creative will even get to build their own levels with the level editor that is planned to come with the full release. It's bound to give the game a long life with community-built challenges arriving from time to time.

EUROPLAY NOMINEE

We haven't picked this week to feature You Suck At Parking by chance either. Next week the all-digital Gamescom kicks off and at the same time, it will mark the return EuroPlay Video Games Contest. Think of it like Eurosong, but instead of a song, each of the 13 participating countries picks a game that will represent it.

Just like Eurosong, the popular vote from the people at home will also play a deciding role in who will turn out to be the victor, as after the live stream on the 26th of August (19:00 Belgian Time), you will be given a chance to vote for your favourite game. We're hoping to count on the many Belgian gaming communities to rally their members and gather lots of votes for You Suck At Parking.
